Comet Hale-Bopp
I had my first sighting of Hale-Bopp on the
morning of February 3, 1997 and I spent the next few months observing,
photographing, or imaging it. I was amazed at how bright it was and how easily it was distinguished as a comet even
from my street the first morning I saw it with the naked eye and binoculars soon revealed a
nice tail forming.
Drawings
Here's Hale-Bopp on the morning of February 5, 1997. I thought that the triangle of stars
just behind the nucleus were very interesting that morning. Great views at about 25x using my
35mm eyepiece and an f/6.3 reducer, the comet fills up the wide field of view.
