The 2001 autocross season for the NWR-SCCA continued with an event at another new venue - Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. For the morning we had a pretty good turnout of RS's, four of us were running in Street Touring class, another in Novice, and we also had a Legacy GT and an Impreza Wagon running. In the afternoon there were quite a few new WRX's waiting to run in GS against the Integra Type R's. The morning was dry to start but wet by the last run in STS which caused quite a few low times and slides that added a bit of excitement. The best Subaru slide I saw was Eugene Wong who took out the final cone at the finish then when hitting the brakes took a big slide and ended up backwards in the exit shoot, miraculously not taking out any other cones. The afternoon had to be a slippery affair for the WRX crowd.
STS was a pretty full group with 9 drivers total. Lou Greenberg dominated in his Audi A3 that has the controversial 1.8T engine just allowed in ST class this year. We had four Subies in STS finally so we are starting to make a presence in the class.
