Halfway through the Mullen Protocol

Today I finish up another  week of the Mullen protocol which means I’m half done with the second round and half done with the entire 8 week protocol.   I definitely have improved since last Saturday when I was having issues with the S.boulardii but I’m not 100% over this yet.   I am starting to think that my issues may not be the SIBO as much as either the blasto or some other basic colon imbalance at this point since I don’t start having any discomfort until about 2.5-4 hours after eating dinner at night which makes me think things are lower down.   Every night  when I’m about ready to go to bed some churning starts down deep and bugs me into the night, last night I woke up at 12:30 and my gut was still going.   Maybe all these antimicrobials have finally just done in the flora I need but I’m still afraid to add in probiotics to see if that makes a difference, at least not until I get a clear test.   I was hoping to get in a call to Dr. Keller to discuss this next week but there are no openings until May 1st and I’ll be almost past my next break week by then.

I retest on the 15th of May in Portland and have an in-person appointment with Dr. Keller on the 18th to follow up on the results, see where we go from there, and start looking at some of the other issues I have going on that no one seems to be able to find.  Dr. Keller has dug in on a few of my friends and found underlying issues or complication issues that none of their other doctors were able to find so I’m hoping she can do the same for me.   I’m in Portland, might as well take advantage of it.   If I don’t come out clear on this one I’m not sure what to try next, I’ve pretty much done everything out there.  If I do come out clear then I’m assuming another stool test is in order to see if the parasite is still there and if it is then address it next.

I also had a Cyrex auto-immune panel run this past week to see if we see something different than a year ago when I last ran tests for autoimmunity.   The tomato incident makes me think something is still up that we haven’t found but we’ll know more in a few weeks when the results come in.  It would be great if those show up before the 18th when I have the appointment with Dr. Keller.  I  also need to go get a general CBC done with lipid panel just to see where things sit after eating Paleo for a year now.

Overall though, I can’t complain.  I’m eating well, doing some hiking, light running, fishing and we are getting a lot done here at the house.  I’m keeping up on my classwork which is actually pretty easy compared to what I’m used to in the software world.  I talked to two people last week about possible work and am meeting with one of them next week to further discuss a project so maybe I’ll even be back to work again for real soon.
